About Us
The ReBottle Project is a student-led initiative with a vision to address the growing issue of plastic pollution, particularly the widespread use of single-use plastic cups in cafés.
This initiative started as an environmental project in a local school for the Spring Cohort 2024 of the Climate Leaders Fellowship sponsored by Stanford University and Rustic Pathways. The ReBottle Project has been awarded the first Climate Leaders Award, awarded to the top three projects out of more than 70 student-led projects in the Climate Leaders Fellowship. Our project is now expanding to impact a larger amount of people.
The First ReBottle Implement
We are privileged to collaborate with the cabin manager at our school who share our vision and are committed to making a difference within the local community.
Before we started collaborating with local vendors, we proposed our Rebottle Project to our school cabin. Mrs. Gragg, the cabin manager at our school, accepted our proposal and decided to offer a 25 percent discount for the first two weeks of April 2024 and a 10 percent discount after the second week of April 2024. While reducing the use of plastic cups was our main goal, we correspondingly wanted to show visually how much plastic was saved in the process. To accomplish this, we made a big tracker board to display at the cabin. People (primarily students) would place a small circle sticker on the board each time they used a reusable bottle. After ten days we implemented the discount system, the tracker board was filled with 80 dot stickers, which means approximately 80 plastic cups were saved. We have noticed that, even way past the initial phase of the project, a growing number of people including students, school faculty members, and parents are still bringing their reusable bottles to the cabin.
